Terms of Service

1. What HushRead Does

HushRead provides a Chrome browser extension and backend service that:

• Extracts article content from web pages you choose to process
• Converts that content into EPUB format optimized for e-ink displays
• Optionally translates article content using AI-powered translation
• Delivers the resulting EPUB file to your Kindle or e-reader via email

HushRead is a reading convenience tool. It does not host, store, or redistribute article content.

2. Accounts & Eligibility

• You must be at least 13 years old to use HushRead
• You agree to provide accurate and up-to-date information

You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account.

3. Service Tiers & Usage Limits

• Quota resets on the 1st of each month at 00:00 UTC
• Unused quota does not carry over

4. Acceptable Use

You agree to use HushRead for personal, non-commercial reading only.

You must NOT:

• Circumvent paywalls
• Redistribute converted content
• Automate usage (bots, scripts, Selenium, Puppeteer, etc.)
• Share accounts
• Abuse translation for bulk processing
• Reverse-engineer or exploit the Service
• Overload or stress-test the system

5. Fair Use Policy

Why this matters

Translation uses paid third-party AI APIs. Abuse increases costs and affects all users.

HushRead is built for readers, not robots.

Abuse includes:

• Exceeding monthly article or translation limits
• Excessive daily usage suggesting automation
• Repeated duplicate submissions
• Submitting non-article content (HTML dumps, code, etc.)
• Creating multiple accounts to bypass limits
• Sending more than 10 requests within 5 minutes

Enforcement

• Soft limit: warning shown, processing continues
• Hard limit: requests queued until reset
• Repeated abuse: account suspension or termination

We allow natural spikes in usage. If you have legitimate high-volume needs, contact us.

6. Content & Copyright

You are responsible for ensuring you have the legal right to use the content you process.

HushRead:

• Processes publicly accessible content at your request
• Does NOT host, cache, or redistribute content

7. Payments & Subscriptions

Policies:

• Cancel anytime (access continues until billing period ends)
• No prorated refunds
• Refunds may be issued for billing errors or outages
• Price changes require 30 days notice

8. Beta Period

HushRead is currently in private beta.

During this period:

• Features and pricing may change
• No guarantee of uptime or stability
• Access may be limited or invite-only
• Beta users may receive special pricing

9. Service Availability

We aim for high availability but do not guarantee uninterrupted service.

Downtime may occur due to:

• Maintenance
• Infrastructure issues
• Third-party failures (Mailgun, OpenAI, Anthropic)

We are not liable for delays outside our control.

10. Account Termination

By you

• Request deletion via email
• Data deleted within 30 days (see Privacy Policy)

By us

We may suspend or terminate accounts if you:

• Violate these Terms
• Abuse the Service
• Engage in illegal activity
• Attempt to bypass limits

Severe abuse may result in immediate termination without notice.

11. Intellectual Property

All rights to HushRead belong to us, including:

• Brand
• Code
• Design

You may not copy, modify, or distribute the Service.

Open-source libraries (e.g. Readability.js, Turndown) follow their own licenses.

12. Disclaimer of Warranties

HushRead is provided "as is" and "as available".

We do not guarantee:

• Error-free operation
• Perfect article extraction
• Accurate AI translations
• Consistent EPUB rendering across devices

13. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law:

• We are not liable for indirect or consequential damages
• Total liability is limited to:
  • Amount paid in last 12 months, or
  • $50, whichever is greater

14. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify HushRead against claims arising from:

• Your use of the Service
• Violation of these Terms
• Infringement of third-party rights

15. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Vietnam.

Disputes will be resolved in the courts of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

16. Changes to These Terms

• Material changes: 14 days notice
• Continued use = acceptance

Non-material changes may be made without notice.

17. Severability

If any provision is unenforceable, the remaining Terms remain valid.
