HushRead ("HushRead", "we", "our", "us") is operated by HushRead. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect information when you visit our website at hushread.app, use our Chrome Extension, or interact with our backend service (collectively, the "Service").

By using the Service, you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

1. Information We Collect

Waitlist registration. When you join our waitlist, we collect: your email address, reading interest selections, e-reader device preference, and any optional feedback you provide. We also record the timestamp, page referrer, and source parameter for analytics.

Account information. When you create an account (after launch), we collect your email address, a password (hashed — we never store plaintext), and your Kindle email address (e.g. your-name@kindle.com).

Usage data. We collect operational metadata necessary to run the Service: article titles, processing timestamps, translation language selections, job status logs, and error messages. We use this to monitor service health and improve quality.

Automatically collected data. Like most websites, we collect: IP address (anonymized), browser type and version, operating system, pages visited, and referral source. We use Google Analytics (GA4) for this purpose.

2. Information We Do NOT Collect

• Article content. The text of articles you process is held in memory only during the conversion pipeline (typically under 60 seconds) and discarded immediately after your EPUB is delivered. We do not store, read, index, or analyze your reading content.
• Reading history. We do not maintain a log of which articles you've sent to your Kindle. Job records contain article titles for your reference but are automatically purged after 30 days.
• Translation content. Translated text is discarded after delivery. We do not use your content to train any AI models.
• Browsing activity. The Chrome Extension only activates when you click the HushRead icon. It does not monitor, track, or inject scripts during normal browsing.

3. How We Use Your Information

• To operate the Service: processing articles, generating EPUBs, delivering to your Kindle, managing your account and quota.
• To communicate: sending waitlist invites, account notifications, service updates, and responding to support inquiries.
• To improve: analyzing aggregate usage patterns (e.g. which languages are most requested, average article length) to improve the product. This analysis is always on aggregate, anonymized data — never on individual reading content.
• To enforce our terms: detecting abuse, enforcing rate limits, and protecting the Service from misuse.

4. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to operate HushRead. Each processes data under their own privacy policies:

• Mailgun (by Sinch) — for delivering EPUBs to your Kindle via email. Mailgun processes your Kindle email address and the EPUB file attachment.
• OpenAI / Anthropic — for AI-powered translation. Article text segments are sent to these APIs for translation and discarded by us immediately after. We do not enable training on your data with either provider.
• Google Analytics (GA4) — for anonymized website analytics. You may opt out using browser extensions or privacy settings.
• Google Sheets — for waitlist management during the beta period only.
• Sentry — for error monitoring in production. Sentry receives error logs and stack traces but not article content or personal reading data.

We do not share your personal data with any third party for advertising, marketing, or data brokerage purposes.

5. Data Retention

• Article content: deleted immediately after EPUB delivery (held in memory only).
• Job metadata (title, status, timestamps): retained for 30 days, then automatically purged.
• Account data: retained for the duration of your account. Deleted within 30 days of account deletion request.
• Waitlist data: retained until you request removal or until the waitlist phase ends.
• Analytics data: retained per Google Analytics defaults (14 months).

6. Data Security

We implement reasonable security measures to protect your data:

• All data in transit is encrypted via TLS/HTTPS.
• Passwords are hashed using industry-standard algorithms (never stored in plaintext).
• Database access is restricted to authorized services only.
• Article content is processed in isolated worker containers and never written to persistent storage.

No system is 100% secure. While we take reasonable precautions, we cannot guarantee absolute security of your data.

7. Cookies

Our website uses only essential cookies for session management and analytics. We do not use advertising cookies, tracking pixels, or cross-site trackers. Google Analytics uses first-party cookies — you can opt out using Google's opt-out browser add-on.

8. Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you.
• Correct inaccurate information.
• Delete your account and all associated data.
• Export your data in a portable format.
• Withdraw consent at any time (e.g. unsubscribe from emails).

9. Children's Privacy

HushRead is not intended for use by anyone under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we learn that we have collected data from a child under 13, we will delete it promptly.

10. International Users

HushRead is operated from Vietnam. If you use the Service from outside Vietnam, your data may be transferred to and processed in countries where our servers and third-party services are located. By using the Service, you consent to this transfer.

For users in the European Economic Area (EEA) or United Kingdom, we process data on the basis of legitimate interest (operating the Service) and consent (waitlist registration, analytics). You may exercise your rights under the GDPR by contacting us at the email above.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email or through the Service. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision.
